Each year the laboratory employs in-service training students from the National Diploma Analytical Chemistry program. They are trained on operation of the equipment in the laboratory as well as the ISO17025 quality management system the laboratory complies to. The students assist in the laboratory with projects for customers and gains working experience. They are also giving a research project to complete in their year of training. The research would assist the laboratory to provide a better service.

This year we have three in-service training students.

Gavin Constance works primarily in the Battery testing laboratory. His research project is to look at the standardisation of the lead acid battery single plate testing and validation.

Jacq-Mari Human primarily works in the materials testing laboratory. Her research project will look at qualification and quantification to determine the retained austenite in steel using x-ray diffraction analysis.

Lunathi Ntonintshi primarily works in the materials testing laboratory. Her research project will look at using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy to determine the coating thickness and porosity of various materials.
